Veteran Jet Car driver David Douthit excited to kick off a busy 2017 exhibition season in style April 7th & 8th during the ADRL Spring Drags contested at Rockingham Dragway.
Colorado Springs, Colo. – The 2017 American Drag Racing League Tour can't begin soon enough for Jet Car driver David Douthit. While many racers have shaken off the winter blues by testing in recent weeks, Colorado Springs, Colo. based driver of The Black Pearl Nostalgia Jet Funny Car has been fine-tuning his tune-up and itching to return to the racetrack. He will get his opportunity April 7th & 8th as The Official Jet Car of the ADRL Tour makes its first appearance of the 2017 drag racing season at the legendary Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, NC during the ADRL Spring Drags.
The Black Pearl is the world's only 1969 Chevrolet Nova Jet Funny Car. Powered by a 10,000 horse power J-85 General Electric jet engine, and capable of speeds in excess of 250 miles per hour, The Douthit Motorsports owned jet car is a fan favorite from coast-to-coast. Producing ground pounding afterburner pops and a visually-stunning fire shows during each exhibition run, The Black Pearl is unique among the exclusive Jet Car fraternity for one major reason – its driver.
In 1993 David became the youngest licensed jet car driver in the world, shortly after his 18th birthday and a mere five days after graduating from high school. The son of veteran exhibition driver Joe Douthit, the second-generation jet car driver has evolved into one of the more talented jet car drivers, who places an emphasis on the entertaining the fans both on and off the race track.
"Jet cars are 100 percent about putting on a great show for the fans, on and off the track," stated Douthit. "While some exhibition drivers hide in their RV's during the day and only come out when its show time, that is just not our style at Douthit Motorsports. I think that's a major reason why we love working with Kenny and the ADRL Tour. The ADRL is a fan-focused motorsports league with an emphasis on quality in every aspect of the operation. We love engaging with the fans at each event and can't wait to light the afterburner on our 2017 season at The Rock."
The Douthit Motorsports team has made a positive impression on ADRL President Kenny Nowling. From the pirate-themed graphics of the Black Pearl, to the eye-popping LumaMedia graphics that illuminate on the car while it blasts down the race track, Nowling was so impressed with the car and its driver that they quickly booked them to attend all seven of the 2017 ADRL Tour events.
“We are extremely excited to have David Douthit of Douthit Motorsports on hand for our season opener and all the 2017 ADRL Tour Season events. Dave’s Jet Car," stated ADRL President Kenny Nowling “The Black Pearl” adds huge entertainment value to the fans of the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) with his sportsmanship and afterburner pops that are like no other. And those LumaMedia Graphics lighting up on 1969 Nova Body is a fan favorite. Dave blasted down the dragstrip, afterburner ablaze last year at Gateway Motorsports Park ADRL event and we were extremely impressed with his performance and the fans loved it."
